This is the blog of a Norwegian (Marianne, aka 'M') who moved to Australia in 2007 to be with Roger (aka R) and feels lucky to have escaped a comparatively communistic country with ridiculous weather!
Archive listing for August 2006 BusesPosted in 'Unassigned' on August 7, 2006 Today I had an encounter with the most unpleasant busdriver ever. He was nice enough to me, but horrible and rude to some other ppl. I'd just gotten on the bus and it was about to leave. The last person to get on the bus was an old man which obviously had some probs walking, as old ppl do. Instead of waiting till he'd found a seat, the driver started driving. The old guy had to hold on for dear life. Just as he'd managed to find himself a seat the bus turned and he lost balance and fell. It obviously hurt by the look on his face. The driver noticed nuthin. A few minutes later there was an old woman hurrying towards the bus stop to catch the bus, but she failed and stopped 5 metres from the bus stop, signalling that she'd like him to stop. He kept driving and then shook his head to himself, as if she'd been really rude to expect him to stop. Another few minutes went by and we got to the bus stop at the hospital. No one was getting off, so the doors remained shut. We had to stop for a few seconds to wait for another bus to get out of the way. While the bus was standing still, a man walked up to the bus and clearly wanted the driver to open the door and let him on. There's no way the driver could have missed him. He still chose to completely ignore him and started driving. Few more minutes and a guy stopped the bus at a bus stop and asked whether or not the bus went a specific place or if he'd had to get a different bus. Instead of telling him politely he'd have to get on the next bus, the driver shouted "Next one!", closed the door and drove on. o_O There was another incident which happened when I was going home today, and has absolutely nuthin to do with that horrible driver. An old lady and I were waiting for the bus at the bus stop. When it got there I let her get on first. She checked her purse and realised she didn't have any money. She asked the driver if she could get a free ride to the hospital and get some money there. The driver said, politely, that he couldn't do that. So she had to get off the bus and she actually got offended. I don't blame her for asking, but what was she gonna do when we got to the hospital? There are no ATMs there. She prolly just wanted the free ride. Some ppl.
Phones and retardsPosted in 'Unassigned' on August 8, 2006 I've been getting unwanted texts from a retard. Seeing as the retard doesn't understand that they are unwanted, and with Tele2 being the crappiest phone company in existence (they claim to be unable to block individual phone numbers from contacting me, which no other phone company in the western hemisphere would have a prob with) I went and got a new phone number today. Which is just silly, cuz it woulda been easier for Tele2 to block one number than to have to give me a new one. And I liked my number:( The last 8 years there have been 2 unchangable things in my life, my phone number and God. Now one of those is gone. It sucks.
Grey's AnatomyPosted in 'Random stuff' on August 16, 2006 There's a new American tv show on here called Grey's Anatomy. They said "if you liked Desperate Housewives, you'll definitely like this!" I've seen it a few times now, and I think I know what the new trend in American tv shows is. That's the way it usually is. All popular American tv shows have pretty much the same story and same ppl, just a different setting. In Grey's Anatomy they have the exact same problems as they did in Chicago Hope and ER, but they make it seem more comical cuz they copied the music from Desperate Housewives, and the lead character from Ally McBeal. So I'm guessing that every new American tv show from now on and for the next couple years will do that. How boring. What happened to creativity?
Caps Lock keyPosted in 'Random stuff' on August 18, 2006 R an I are frequently annoyed by the uselessness of the caps lock key. It's just so dam useless. And it's really annoying when you're chatting and you hit it by accident in mid-sentence. I don't think I have ever used it... (apart from a brief period when I felt the need to shout in chat rooms.) It turns out we're not alone. Someone has finally taken matters into their own hands and launched the CAPSoff campaign. There is also a CAPSoff blog. I think this is wonderful. Another useless key is the insert key. I can't think of a good reason to use it, but I hit it by accident quite often and it ruins everything i was doing. We'll need a campaign for that too. Soon.
Uni and stuffPosted in 'Unassigned' on August 23, 2006
I went back to uni on monday. Had my first class today tho, since they'd changed the schedule for monday and everyone except me somehow found out about it, and yesterday's class was cancelled, which of course they couldn't post a message about online, but waited till we'd all gotten up early and gone to uni.
Anyway, today I had cell biology. The teacher is the messiest creature I've encountered. Everything about her is messy. Her clothes are messy (not filthy or old, just the way she combines them makes her seem messy), her hair has a llife of its own, what she writes on the blackboard is completely unorganised and all over the place, much like her thought processes, and on her computer desktop the icons aren't arranged in neat lil rows like they are with most ppl. They're scattered around at random. And her voice is the kinda thing you just automatically tune out, like background noise. Very difficult to concentrate.
Usually I enjoy being back at uni after having cleaned floors all summer, but this year I'm so completely unmotivated. The reason is that I have to do my 2nd year over again, due to failing some of my exams. That means that I don't have any classes this year that I haven't had before. It also means that there are now 2 classes I have been in that will graduate before I do.
My first class this morning was statistics, which I did a year ago. I raced through all the problems the teacher gave us, and when he finally decided to go through them on the blackboard, I mentally congratulated everyone on finally catching up with me. That actually happened in all my classes today. Weird how I couldn't pass my exams then.
Uni againPosted in 'Unassigned' on August 25, 2006
Today I went to uni again, as I do. As usual I was a step ahead of the rest. But I also found out that I'm not the only one doing the 2nd year over again. Feels better now that I'm not alone:)
One of my classes today was instrumental analysis, which includes electronics and optics and learning how various hospital machines work. The teacher told us, like he did last year, that the purpose of the class is that when we start working at a hospital or whatnot, and one of the machines is broken, we'll be able to find out what's wrong with it. What he conveniently left out, like last year, is that we're not actually expected to fix any of the machines. If a machine was broken, we'd call the manufacturer.
EnglandPosted in 'My travels' on August 25, 2006 Tomorrow morning I'm going to England to see R, my soulmate. I haven't seen him for a month and I miss him sooo much! I'll be away for a week. Try not to miss me too much.
