oscar's law

This is the blog of a Norwegian (Marianne, aka 'M') who moved to Australia in 2007 to be with Roger (aka R) and feels lucky to have escaped a comparatively communistic country with ridiculous weather!

The Intelligence of Americans

Posted in 'Usa bashing' on May 6, 2010

Canadians claim to be smarter and more worldly than Usatians. As if! I love this video!

Groceries

Posted in 'Roger' on May 9, 2010

Roger went to the supermarket (Coles) while I had a shower, which is unusual because we normally go everywhere together. As I finished my shower he returned because he had left his wallet.

R: *grumpy* I want you to come with me to Coles. It's so cold and depressing to go by myself, and it feels all wrong.

Awwww:)

English weather

Posted in 'Roger' on May 10, 2010

R and I were watching the Formula 1 Grand Prix last night, and an English reporter described the weather as "reasonably sunny".

Me: Doesn't look sunny at all to me, in fact it looks quite grey.
R: I think for English people any time it doesn't rain it's sunny.
Me: *giggle* probably.

Kitties and weather

Posted in 'The cats and the dog!, Life in Oz' on May 14, 2010

I have always thought that humans were the only ones whose moods were affected by the weather, but it turns out cats are too, which is quite fascinating. Today they were able to lie in the sun without getting too hot (because it's nearly winter) and they were all unusually relaxed and happy. And when they are happy, I'm happy.

A plague of people

Posted in 'Global Warming' on May 21, 2010

If women the world over were given easy access to the contraceptive pill, every birth could become a wanted birth, and human population growth would almost come to a halt. But getting that simple message across to our self-seeking politicians and economists will probably take another lifetime, and so the Asian elephant will become extinct after all.

Seattle!

Posted in 'My travels' on May 24, 2010
In 10 days I am going to Usa for the first time, with R and his parents. It should be interesting, and R says he looks forward to hearing my view on all things Usatians, and seeing things through my eyes (he has been there several times before).

We are staying for 2 weeks, and might pop up to Canada for a day trip while we're up that way anyway.

Youtube

Posted in 'Random stuff, Roger' on May 29, 2010
Me: I can't believe Youtube is only 5 years old.
R: Why?
Me: It seems like there's always been a Youtube... doesn't it?
R: Not really.
Me: What did people use before Youtube came along?
R: Nothing.
Me: But.. what kind of sad world is that?
R: I don't know...
Me: Imagine a world where you're not able to make a video and instantly share it with millions of people. How did people ever get by?
